Billie Jean King was born and raised Billie Jean Moffit on November 22, 1943, in southern, California. In Billie Jean’s first years she was an talented softball player yet, Billie Jean knew that there was not much of a opportunity for a woman in softball. Her family then introduced her to tennis, and that changed everything for her and for women’s sports.

From 1961 to 1979, Billie Jean won a unsurpassed 20 Wimbledon championships, including the singles in 1966-8, 1972-3 , and 1975. She also won thirteen United States titles , including four singles, four French championships (1 singles), and two Australian championships (one singles).

Billie Jean first achieved acclaim subsequent to winning the ladies’ doubles title at Wimbledon in Billie Jean’s first attempt in 1962.
